Once we completed our master bathroom renovation, we were quickly inspired to pull the clean, white, renovated look throughout the rest of the house.
When we bought our home four years ago, the trim throughout the house was a creamy beige color. At the time, it didn’t feel like a necessary expense to transfer all of the trim to a more modern, white color. But once we saw our finished bathroom and how bright and clean it looked, we knew the time had come to paint the trim and brighten up the walls.
In the process, we also decided to tackle a project that I have referred to as “defancifying” the house. Our trim had a lot of detail (fluting along the vertical trim, several layers along the top, a lot of extra detail around the door, etc.). For us, we’re just more simple and didn’t feel like the look of the home with all of that extra detailed trim matched our style.
So before we had the painting done, we had our contractors pull off the excess trim and arch below the trim and update it with a simple, clean look. We also had them open up the space between the kitchen and the living room by peeling back the extra trim on the sides and top of the support walls. We took off as much as we could without affecting the load-bearing beam. This made the transformation as cost-effective as possible and gave us the most bang for our buck.
Once the trim was peeled back and defancified 😉 we painted the walls SW Agreeable Gray and the trim BM White Dove. We also painted the book shelves and fire place white dove, and had our contractors frame out the tv with 4 pieces of wood and base cap before painting. Honestly, it was a relatively simple and inexpensive change that made a big difference in the overall appearance!
We also painted the two-toned coffered ceiling in the living room all white dove and replaced the fan. The difference these changes made was HUGE!
Once the paint and trim updates were complete, it was time to finally finish decorating the living room shelves that had been 60% decorated for the better part of 2020.
I have always been a Homegoods shopper for all of our home decor, but 2020 really impacted their inventory, and I never seemed to find anything worth buying whenever I had a minute to pop into their stores.
So when a friend told me about Outrageous Interiors and I walked into their Marietta location for the first time, my jaw about hit the floor. THIS is what I had been looking for!
Outrageous Interiors offers a wide variety of unique home decor and furniture at various price points. They also have trained interior designers working at their shops who are there to assist with design for free! I simply took a picture of my shelves, walked in the store, showed one of the ladies there the gaps that I needed to fill, and within two days, my shelves were complete!

I was so happy with the finished product and everything else that I found in their store when I was shopping for our shelves, that I asked if they would be willing to help us finish decorating our office and master bedroom as well.
So for this next phase of home updates, we will be working with the Outrageous Interiors in-home design team to furnish decorating both of those spaces!
