Back in December, Matt and I decided to purchase a Peloton. This decision was not made lightly, and we wanted to be 100% sure that we would use it frequently and LOVE it. So we decided before ordering that we would take the 30-day trial seriously and each get a ride in every day to make absolutely sure we loved every penny of it.
And oh. my. YES. We are 6 weeks in now, and we LOVE it. It has for sure lived up to the hype and has made my 2019 goal to carve out time for daily exercise something that I actually look forward to.
Each workout feels like you’re taking an actual class in a studio with a personal trainer. You can choose to participate in a live ride, or select from a library of on-demand rides.
I love that you can choose your workouts based on length of time, music genre, type of ride, instructor, or you can just start pedaling and journey on a scenic tour through different cities in the world. Crazy!
They also have different challenges each month that you can choose to participate in. And while you’re in the middle of a ride, you can see other people participating on the leader board and can choose to compete against them, or virtually high five them for their effort during a class. When Matt hit his 30th consecutive day of riding, he got tons of high-fives from other riders in his class. It probably sounds funny, but it’s a cool way of making you feel like you really are participating with other people, and not just working out in your own home.
My favorite part is how easy it is to jump on and start a quick workout. During the week, most of my rides are 15-20 minutes long. As soon as I close the doors to our kids’ rooms for rest time, I run into our room and jump on the bike. Some days, I choose a ride that has me drenched in sweat, and other days, I choose a low impact ride that reenergizes me without making me feel like I need to use more of the nap window to shower after. 😉
So for two people who were not bikers and had never bought a piece of exercise equipment before, we’re sold. 😉
My other at-home (FREE!) workouts
I cancelled my gym membership when Ryan, our first baby, was born as I quickly realized getting to a gym was not as feasible as it once was. I knew I wanted to continue exercising, so I started looking for free workouts on YouTube, and over the years, I have found a handful of instructors and workouts that are my favorite.
I love BodyFit By Amy. Her 20-minute prenatal pilates workout is one of my favorites, but she has tons of other workouts that great for moms in every season.
Boho Beautiful is another one of my favorites. I love her Ultimate Pilates 21-day Challenge. The workouts are short and sweet, but leave you feeling stronger and leaner without the need for a shower when you’re done. 😉
Nicole Stewart is another one of my faves. Her videos are a bit old-school and a little hokey, but they are quick and effective!
My fourth and final favorite is a classic DVD that I’ve done a bagillion times since Ryan was born. Once you’ve done it enough, it’s better on mute in my opinion, hah, but the workouts are GOOD and will make you sweat in a short amount of time. And bonus- it’s less than $8 on Amazon.
So that wraps up my at-home workout routines! In short, I really believe that fitness is worth you time and money and absolutely contributes to positive mental health as well. Hopefully today’s post gave you a few new workouts to test out for yourselves!
