When you are pregnant and nursing, your options for combatting hormonal skin changes like breakouts, dark spots, and dry skin are significantly limited. So I’ve had to get creative during this pregnancy, and I have to say, the products I’ve been using are working to help me with all three of these areas!
Every single pregnancy, I experience melasma, or what I refer to as my face turning 27 different shades of brown. But this pregnancy, I’ve also had the joy of learning about perioral dermatitis, which is basically a facial rash of small red bumps that look like tiny breakouts around the mouth and nose. It’s quite lovely.
So after doing some research and trying a few products, I’ve landed on a handful of products that I’m currently using every day. And the best part is, they’re working!
I have been using this Apple Cider Vinegar as a toner every night, and even though I’ve read that the “raw and unfiltered” version that you can’t use during pregnancy (since it’s unpasteurized) works best, my perioral dermatisis has almost completely disappeared with the filtered (and even cheaper!) version. And at just over $1, it’s the least expensive toner I’ve ever used. Win, win.
In addition to the ACV, I’ve been mixing a few drops of Tea Tree Oil in with my night cream to help with breakouts. I found this one on Amazon for less than $7, and since you only need a tiny bit, it lasts forever!
This is the night cream I’ve been using for a little over a month. I tried it at a spa as a recommended brightening product that was safe to use during pregnancy, and I love the way it feels and smells- very clean, refreshing, and smooth. This is what I mix a few drops of Tea Tree Oil with each night.
I love that this daily moisturizer has an SPF of 50 (also comes in 30), but goes on light and smooth. It has a clean scent and makes my skin feel moisturized and protected from the sun without feeling thick from the SPF.
My hands have been so dry this winter, so I’ve been using this Cleansing Balm from BeautyCounter as a deep moisturizer while I sleep. This product can also be used as a face wash or an overnight moisturizing face mask (crazy, right?!). I have the travel size version. A little bit goes a long way, so it lasts forever! If you are looking for a BeautyCounter rep, Becky Zaro would be happy to help you find clean beauty products to meet your needs.
In addition to these products, I also like to use a Vitamin C brightening serum. I have a Beauty Counter one (found here) that I love as well as one that I found on Amazon (found here). I put this on after my toner and before my night cream.
So that’s what I’ve been using! If you have any products that you love that are safe to use during pregnancy, I would love to hear about them! Just leave a comment below. 🙂
