We have been making this braid for years! It is so easy, so delicious, and great to make on breakfast-for-dinner nights, when you’re serving a group for brunch, or I’ve even served it as an appetizer with some added green chiles for some extra flavor. It is a definite staple in our home!
INGREDIENTS:
1- 16oz. package maple sausage
1- 16oz. package hot or regular sausage
12 oz. cream cheese (1.5 packages)
2- packages butter flake Pillsbury Crescent rolls
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 375. Brown sausage, breaking into small pieces as it cooks. Drain excess grease. Return to pan. Add cream cheese. Mix until well blended.
Roll out packages of crescent rolls so that you have two rectangles, one below the other, lined up with the bottom longer side of the first package touching the top longer side of the second package (see pictures below).
Cut strips in the sides, 3/4 of the way to the center. I end up with 3 strips per rectangle, so the entire braid has 12 strips cut on each side.
Lay sausage mixture down the center of the crescent rolls. Starting from the top, pull up two sides of the crescent rolls, twist, and lay in the center. Bake for 14-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
Enjoy!
