We had the absolute BEST time this past weekend celebrating my birthday in one of our favorite places! 🤍

We first stayed in this charming home 3 years ago and honestly have been hoping to go back ever since.

The home sits on 2.5 acres and is walkable to the cutest downtown with an ice cream shop, toy store, Wander store, and several family-friendly (and pet-friendly!) restaurants.

And there is SO much to do nearby—from waterfall hikes, biking, fishing, and horseback riding in the warmer months to ice skating and snow tubing in the winter. Plus, Black Rock Mountain State Park, Tallulah Gorge, and Lake Burton are all nearby. It’s such a fun area to visit in every season!

We feel like life just slows down when we’re here, and we’re always sad to leave!

The hosts are offering a direct booking link that already saves 15–18% off Airbnb pricing PLUS an additional 10% discount when you mention Making Home Here at booking! 🙌🏼

Just add “-MHH” next to your first name when booking so Jen knows to apply the additional discount for you!

*2-night minimum stay required.

You can check availability, get a full tour of the house, and read about EVERYTHING there is to do in and around Clayton through the direct booking link below:

Now that all four kids are in school, my days have a lot more flexibility than they did in the little-kid years, but I’ve found that having a general rhythm helps me make the most of that time.

Time at home to get things done. Time to be active. Time with Matt. Time volunteering at the kids’ school, running errands, doing work I genuinely enjoy, and leaving a little margin for all the things that inevitably pop up.

Every day looks a little different, and I definitely don’t follow a perfectly planned schedule, but having a loose structure gives my days some direction without making them feel rigid.

Sharing what that looks like in this season of life, in case any part of it is helpful. 🤍

When our kids were itty bitty, people would always say, “The days are long, but the years are short.”

And now I’m here, feeling the truth of those words and wanting to slow down enough to notice the little moments that can so easily get lost in the routines of our days.

The conversations in the car going to and from all the things. The backpacks by the door and shoes that haven’t yet found their way to the shoe shelf. The after-school snacks and homework at the kitchen counter. The laughter coming from another room. The ordinary things that don’t feel especially significant while they’re happening, but somehow end up being the things you wish you could bottle up and keep forever.

These are the days I know I’ll miss someday. So this is me trying to be here for them while they’re still ours.

Lately I’ve been thinking about the history of this space and what Making Home Here might look like going forward.

This space has naturally evolved as our kids have gotten older. I still have the same desire to encourage parents in whatever season our own crew happens to be walking through — but what I choose to share has had to evolve, too, as I honor our kids and become more thoughtful about what parts of their lives are mine to make public.

And the truth is, I’ve never been very good at following the “rules” of influencing. Creating content just to feed an algorithm so an account can keep growing has never been what motivates me.

What does make me excited to open this app is the community that has been built here over the years. I genuinely love connecting with you over travel, parenthood and everyday life.

So with that in mind, I’d love to hear from you. What do you love seeing here — and maybe what do you miss?

Recipes? Routines? Parenting hacks and encouragement? School lunches? Everyday life when we’re not traveling? Recaps of our favorite trips? Home projects? Goals? Something else entirely?

I’d love to bring back some old favorites, share more of the life happening between the trips, and connect with you guys outside of our travels again.

And whether you found us through a recent travel post or you’ve been here since the very beginning, we’re so glad you’re here. 🤍

Jade Mountain Resort is already living up to everything we hoped it would be 👏🏼👏🏼

I first found this resort when Matt and I were engaged and looking for places to honeymoon. It was nowhere near our newlywed budget, so we tucked it away on the “one day” bucket list.

19 years later, we are HERE. 🥹

Ever so grateful for the days ahead together in this little slice of paradise—and for the village of friends and family back home who are making this escape for the two of us possible.

Some things are worth the wait. ✨

We’re just getting started, and I already can’t wait to share more of this special place with you! Who else has had Jade Mountain on their bucket list?! 🙋🏼‍♀️
